MAS Northern got around in July!

Lake District National Park, Lancashire and the Peak District – all the Mountain Activity Section Northern area camping meets that were held in July.

July started off with us in the middle of Ambleside. Yes, right in the middle. With a little help from the sunshine, hot days on the fells and a cool-off in lakeland waters were enjoyed by many.  “Every day’s been a classic,” says Steve. Thanks to Dave & Gill for sitting it all out as stewards. Please, if you love this mountain valley site, consider giving some of your time next year to help the stewards out.

It’s a Wild Life in Austwick

Wood End Farm, Austwick

17 – 20 May 2018

Thank you to the North East Lancashire District Association (NELDA) for hosting this meet. MAS Northern always has a wonderful time in this superb walking area of the Yorkshire Dales. Yorkshire Three Peaks nearby, Crummockdale and the blooming marvellous display of spring colour from the spring flowers up in the meadow behind the site.

Never can we tire of  camping at this wonderful site.

And, just a little change of scenery from our usual galleries of walking, here’s some wilder life.

And, yes, a walk!

Entertainment, MAS Northern style

Camping rallies are renowned for their organised entertainment. At Mountain Activity Section Northern, we’re not.

Your MAS days will be spent chatting to your heart’s content with others on a group walk (or not, if that’s what you choose).

At an MAS Northern evening, we enjoy a wild life and you will likely:

Walk and cycle – that’s our thing

Muddy boots are always welcome at our meets. So pack those bags, boot up, tie those laces, check that map….let’s go!

The locations we camp in are walking, hiking and cycling heaven.  They offer terrains suitable for various fitness levels, from flat riverside paths, to the odd scramble up and down some of England’s highest mountain peaks.  Some of our members run mountain marathons. Some of them don’t.  Some of them cycle 44 miles to buy some cheese. Some of them just like to eat it.

We try to offer group walks at most of our meets. These are led by volunteer members and group walks are dependent on their availability (and their mood about the weather and how good lunch might have been!).  Our walks range from about 4 – 10 miles.
